The Gospel

What Is the Gospel?

The word gospel means good news.

At the center of Christianity is the message that God has acted through Jesus Christ to rescue sinful people and reconcile them to Himself.

Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead. Salvation is God's gift of grace, received through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.

That is the Gospel.

No pressure. Start by understanding what Christianity actually teaches.

God Humanity & Sin

01
God
The Gospel begins with God.
Christianity begins with the claim that God created us and that our lives ultimately belong to Him.

Scripture describes God as holy, righteous, loving, just, merciful, and the Creator of all things.

We were created to know Him.
02
Humanity
We were made in God's image.
Christianity gives human beings extraordinary dignity because Scripture teaches that we were created in the image of God.

Our value is not based on success, intelligence, wealth, appearance, ability, or what other people think of us.

But something has gone wrong between humanity and God.
03
Sin
Sin separates us from God.
Sin is more than making mistakes.

It is our rebellion against God in our actions, desires, attitudes, and refusal to live under His rightful authority.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23, NKJV
The problem is universal. We all need God.

If the Gospel ended there, it would not be good news.
Christianity says God did not leave us separated from Him.

THE CENTER OF THE GOSPEL

Jesus, the Cross & Resurrection

04
Jesus
God came to us.
Christianity makes an extraordinary claim about Jesus.

Jesus was not simply a moral teacher or religious leader. Christians believe He is the Son of God who entered human history and lived without sin.

The Gospel is not primarily about humanity finding its way to God.

It is about God coming to us.
05
The Cross
Jesus died for our sins.
Jesus was crucified under Roman authority.

Christianity teaches that His death was more than an execution. Jesus willingly gave His life for sinners so that we could be reconciled to God.
The Cross shows both the seriousness of sin and the depth of God's love.
06
The Resurrection
Jesus rose from the dead.
Christianity does not end at the Cross.

Jesus' followers proclaimed that He bodily rose from the dead.
“And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins!”
1 Corinthians 15:17, NKJV
The Resurrection is not a side issue.

It is central to Christianity.
You do not have to accept the Resurrection simply because Christianity claims it happened. Come See Why has a separate evidence pathway where you can investigate the historical case.

Grace, Repentance
&  Faith

07
Grace
You cannot earn salvation.
The Gospel is not:

‍Become good enough and God will accept you.

Christianity teaches the opposite. We cannot repair our separation from God through good deeds, religious activity, morality, generosity, or church attendance.

Salvation is a gift.
08
Repentance & Faith
The Gospel calls for a response.
Jesus called people to repent and believe.

Repentance
means turning from sin and toward God.

‍Faith means trusting in Jesus Christ rather than trusting in yourself to make yourself right with God.

This is more than acknowledging that Jesus existed.

It means placing your trust in Him.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8–9, NKJV
The problem is universal. We all need God.

A prayer does not save you. Jesus saves.

There is no special combination of words that forces God to save someone. Prayer can express genuine repentance and faith, but salvation does not depend on perfectly wording a prayer, walking an aisle, clicking a button, or completing a religious ritual.

The invitation of the Gospel is to repent and trust in Jesus Christ.

09 NEW LIFE

Following Jesus changes what comes next.

Becoming a Christian does not mean becoming perfect overnight.

It does not mean suffering disappears. It does not mean every question disappears.

It means you belong to Christ. Christianity teaches that those who trust in Jesus are forgiven, reconciled to God, given new life, and called to follow Him.

Following Jesus begins a life of learning to trust Him, know Him through Scripture, pray, live among other believers, love others, turn away from sin, and grow in faith.

You do not earn God's love through that growth.

‍You grow because you have received His grace.

The Gospel in one view.

If everything above feels like a lot, here is the story in its simplest form.

09

New Life

Those who belong to Christ begin a new life following Him.

What will you do with
the Gospel?

You do not have to pretend you understand everything.

You do not have to manufacture an emotional moment.

And you do not have to have every question answered before taking Jesus seriously.

If you believe the Gospel and want to trust Jesus Christ, we can help you understand what following Him means.

If you still have questions, keep asking them.

If you are not convinced, keep investigating.

‍The invitation is not to fake certainty. It is to honestly consider Jesus.
